How to Get Blood out of Jeans

It is always easier to get a fresh blood stain out of your denim than old and dried ones. But before we begin, it's essential to realize that removing blood stains from denim is tough. You might need to repeat steps or use multiple ways for better results.

We start with the following steps.

Step-1: Lay Jeans Flat and Isolate Blood-Stained Area

We start by laying the jeans flat on a hard surface with the blood-stained area on top and visible. Now place an old towel or a washcloth inside the jeans and under the blood-stained area. It would prevent the stain from soaking to the other side.

Step-2: Soak the Stain in Icy Cold Water

Take icy cold water in a bowl, soak a cloth towel, and dab it over the stained area. Take the water as cold as possible since it works best for protein-based stains like period blood. Do not use warm or hot water as it would set the stain instead of removing it.

Step-3: Blot Well to Remove the Stain as Much as Possible

Once the stain has been thoroughly soaked, keep blotting it with icy cold water to remove as much blood as possible. You can also do this from the underside of the jeans for more effective removal.

Repeat the step several times to eliminate as much blood stain as possible.

Step-4: Use Soap or Stain Remover Pen

If the stain is still persistent, rub little laundry soap over it, add a few drops of ice-cold water and allow it to soak for about 15 minutes.

Alternatively, you can use a blood stain remover pen over it and let it sit for 15 minutes.

Step-5: Dab the Area Clean

Once the stain is entirely soaked, dab it with cold water using an old towel several times until the detergent and stain are eliminated.

If you desire, you can finish off by washing your jeans in a washing machine using regular detergent and powdered oxygen bleach. Remember to clean the jeans in a cold wash cycle.

Steps to Remove Dried Blood Stains from Jeans

Sometimes your jeans get stained with period blood or due to an accident. Unfortunately, it is not possible every time to tackle the stain immediately. Consequently, it dries out. Removing dried blood stains is a lot tougher, but the following steps should go a long way in helping you.

  • Soak the stained jeans in icy cold water in a tub for about 30 minutes.
  • Wring out the water to make the jeans damp.
  • Spread the stained area of the jeans like before and place an old towel or rag inside and under the stained area.
  • Apply a paste of unflavored meat tenderizer and water liberally over the stained area and let it sit for 30-45 minutes. Meat tenderizer can effectively break down the protein in the blood stain.
  • Remove the paste and cold wash the jeans in the washing machine, as mentioned above.
  • Repeat the process if the stain does not come out in one go.

Seven Household Blood Stain Removers

Like meat tenderizers, there are several other household ingredients that you can use to remove dried blood stains effectively. A few of them are:

1. Hydrogen Peroxide

It is the best solution if you wonder how to remove blood stains from white jeans. Just pour the peroxide solution over the damp and stained jeans, cover the stain with plastic wrap, and then an old towel. Blot and clean the area well after 10 to 15 minutes. Cold wash the jeans.

Be cautious about using hydrogen peroxide on blue or other colored jeans, as it may discolor the denim.

2. Salt and Shampoo

The ingredients work well for fresh blood stains. Once the jeans have been prepared, as stated earlier, rub some salt over the stained area and lightly rub it over it. Now pour a liberal portion of shampoo over it and massage it to a rich lather. Add another tablespoon of salt and wash off the jeans after 30 minutes.

3. Liquid Dishwashing Soap

You can also use dishwashing liquid instead of shampoo. It also works great on both fresh and dried blood stains.

4. Baking Soda

Soaking the blood stain with baking soda paste for about 30 minutes can effectively remove dried blood stains.

5. Ammonia

Pour a mixture of one tablespoon of ammonia and half a cup of cold water over the blood stain and follow the usual procedure after 10 minutes.

6. Glass Cleaner

Spray undiluted glass cleaner over the blood stain and clean as usual after 15 minutes.

7. Toothpaste

Liberally apply toothpaste over the stained area and cold wash after 30 minutes.

Apart from these, cola, lemon juice, etc., are also some ingredients that can be an effective stain remover.

Conclusion

Timing is crucial when trying to remove blood stains from denim fabric. Once the stain has been removed, the jeans should be sun-dried as the sun works as a natural bleach.

We hope you can now effortlessly eliminate blood stains and make your jeans as good as new.

FAQs

1. Do blood stains come out of denim?

Yes, you can remove blood stains from denim using the right ingredients and following the correct procedure. The earlier you treat the stain, the easier it is to get it out.

2. Are blood stains permanent?

Blood stains are not permanent if treated and eliminated correctly. Using the right ingredient while keeping the fabric and stain age in mind makes the task easier.

But if it gets deeply rooted, removing them can be difficult.

3. Does salt remove blood stains?

Salt has strong dehydrating properties and works as a mild abrasive. Hence, it can eliminate fresh blood stains effectively by absorbing them before it sets in.

4. Is hot or cold water better for blood stains?

Hot water tends to cook the protein of the blood stain and set it more deeply into the fabric. In contrast, cold water helps remove the stain without it locking with the fabric.

Hence, cold water is strongly recommended to eliminate blood stains.
